IPA researcher and PhD candidate Mareike Well (ENVIPA project) participated in the 20th Conference of the Parties of the UN Convention on Climate Change (COP 20 of the UNFCCC) in Lima, Peru, alongside 11.000 participants (01.-14. December 2014). At COP 20, parties agreed on the “Lima Call for Climate Action”, paving the way for a post-Kyoto treaty. Mareike Well followed the negotiations especially with regards to the emergence of an international forest and land use governance, which is one of the central themes for the ENVIPA project. She presented her current research on “The institutional fragmentation of finance for REDD+” at a side event on climate finance (“The role of climate finance of intended nationally determined contributions”).
In June 2015 she also participated in the 42th meeting of the Subsidiary Bodies (SB 42) – the inter-sessional meetings of the UNFCCC in Bonn. Here she had the opportunity of observing the completion of the technical negotiations on REDD+, following almost 10 years of intensive negotiations.
In December 2015, members of the ENVIPA project will take part in the 21th Conference of the Parties (COP 21) in Paris, in order to analyze the role of different actors for the negotiations of a new climate treaty.
