Between February 22nd – 25th, 2017, Andrea Liese and Jana Herold from the research project EXPERTISE (University of Potsdam) participated at the International Studies Association’s 58th Annual Convention “Understanding Change in World Politics” held in Baltimore, Maryland.
The two researchers were part of the panel “International organizations and their domestic constituencies”, which was sponsored by the German Political Science Association and the International Studies Association and chaired by Tana Johnson (Duke University). The panel focused on the relations between international organizations and their domestic constituencies. Papers were presented by Alexandru Grigorescu (Loyola University Chicago), Stephen C. Nelson (Northwestern University), Jan Aart Scholte (University of Gothenburg) and Jens Steffek (Technische Universität Darmstadt). Duncan Snidal (University of Oxford) and Lora Viola (Freie Universität Berlin) participated as discussants of the papers.
Andrea Liese and Jana Herold presented the paper “Expert authority of international bureaucracies? A comparison of how international bureaucracies are perceived”, which presents the main findings of the research project EXPERTISE. These findings are based on a statistical analysis of responses to a survey which was sent to nearly 1000 officials in different ministries and central banks in 120 countries and which evaluates their perceptions on various IPAs in the policy fields of agriculture and finance, including the World Bank, IMF, OECD, FAO and UNEP.
