The IPA researchers Per-Olof Busch, Hauke Feil and Jana Herold participated in the 7th Annual General Conference of the European Political Science Association held in Milan (Italy) from the 22nd to the 25th of June. The conference was used to present and discuss two upcoming papers of the EXPERTISE project. Both papers are based on the analysis of a global survey, in which more than 380 national policy makers from more than 100 countries participated. The papers cover various IPAs in the policy fields of agriculture and finance, including the World Bank, IMF, OECD, FAO and UNEP.

Hauke Feil presented the paper “Assessing the extent and importance of expert authority of international bureaucracies”, which compares the expert authority of 18 different IPAs. It also presents a practical approach to conceptualize and measure expert authority. Per-Olof Busch acted as a discussant in this panel.

Jana Herold presented the paper “Anyone listening to IOs? Studying the influence of international bureaucracies as policy advisors”. This paper measures and compares to what extent the policy advice of different IPAs is considered by national policy makers and provides explanations for differences in the considered policy advice.
